Farm Drainage Tiling in Iowa

Farm drainage tiling is the trade the Robinson family built this business on in 1966 — and it's still the craft at the center of everything we do. From hand-laid clay tile and a badger ladder trencher to today's corrugated plastic tile on GPS-checked grade, we've been tiling Iowa farmland for three generations.

Tiling is how you turn wet, heavy ground into productive ground. A network of buried tile lowers the water table, pulls excess moisture out of the root zone, and lets your field dry and warm early enough to plant on time. Done right, it pays for itself in saved yield season after season.

A lot of the farmland we work still has old clay tile in the ground — some of it laid decades ago. We find it, map it, and retrofit those aging networks with modern plastic tile, tying new runs into the old mains where they still carry water and replacing the sections that don't. That kind of retrofit takes a crew that knows how the older systems were built, and that's exactly what three generations of tiling gives you.

Whether you're starting from raw ground, adding to an existing pattern, or bringing an old clay-tile farm back to life, we bring the trencher, the tile, and the grade work to get water moving to the outlet. From our Earlville home base we lay farm drainage tiling across Eastern Iowa — Delaware County, Jones County, Linn County, and Dubuque County — and on farms throughout the state.

How we handle it

  1. 1

Map the ground, the slopes, and any existing clay or plastic tile

  2. 2

Design lateral spacing, main lines, and outlets for the soil

  3. 3

Retrofit old tile where it still works and replace what doesn't

  4. 4

Lay new tile on checked grade and verify flow at the outlet
