Deep Trenching in Iowa

Deep trenching is the side of excavation that demands more than just digging — cuts that go well below normal grade for deep utility mains, foundation and footing trenches, deep drainage mains, and any line that has to reach below the water table. We've been cutting deep through Iowa soil since the badger ladder trencher in 1966.

Robinson Service Inc · since 1966

A deep trench is a different animal than a shallow run. The deeper you go, the more the walls want to slump, the more water wants to fill the bottom, and the more serious the safety picture gets. We cut deep trenches to the right width and depth, on grade, with stable walls and the shoring a deep cut requires.

On cuts that reach below the water table we coordinate with dewatering to keep the bottom dry enough to work and lay pipe or tile cleanly. We bring the right machine for the depth and the soil, shore the walls where the cut calls for it, and backfill in lifts so the surface doesn't settle later.

If your project needs a deep trench — a deep utility main, a footing trench, a deep drainage line, or a cut that runs below groundwater — we bring the equipment, the crew, and six decades of experience cutting through Iowa soil. As a deep trenching contractor serving Dubuque County and all of Eastern Iowa, we'll cut it deep, set the grade, and leave it ready for whatever you're laying.
